The ITIL Value System and governance
The ITIL Value System
How everything works together as one integrated system to co-create value through digital products and services. Five components:
- Guiding principles: universal recommendations for all circumstances.
- Governance: directs and controls technology use.
- Value chain: the high-level lifecycle activities.
- Management practices: specialized capabilities for doing the work.
- Continual improvement: recurring at every level.
The inputs are opportunity and demand; the outcome is value. The architecture deliberately avoids rigid linear structures to enable flexibility and kill silos. Those flow facts are exam bait.
Governance of digital technology
A human-based system directing and controlling current and future technology use. Three activities:
- Evaluate: assess the organization, strategy, portfolios, relationships.
- Direct: assign responsibility, set strategy and policies (budgets live here).
- Monitor: watch performance and compliance against the direction set.
