Four dimensions, PESTLE, and frameworks
The four dimensions
Every one of them matters for co-creating value; ignore one and you build isolated, non-functional solutions.
- Organizations and people: culture, roles, competencies, leadership. The modern angle: AI treated as a collaborative partner freeing humans for creative work.
- Information and technology: workflow systems, knowledge bases, analytics, cloud, data. Out-of-context information has no intrinsic value; it becomes knowledge only when it enables outcomes.
- Partners and suppliers: service networks, contracts, supply chains. Supplier strategy is driven by core-vs-non-core focus, culture, resource scarcity, cost.
- Value streams and processes: workflows, controls, procedures, mapping. Optimize flow; analyze cycle and wait time to cut waste.
PESTLE
External factors beyond your control pressing on all four dimensions: Political (policy, stability), Economic (growth, funding, inflation), Social (workforce and consumer expectations), Technological (AI, disruption, automation), Legal (GDPR, compliance, IP), Environmental (sustainability rules, carbon targets).
Complementary frameworks
- Lean: flow efficiency and waste elimination in value streams. The trigger term: flow efficiency = cycle time as a share of total lead time.
- Agile: iterative increments and fast feedback. MVP for early feedback and pivots.
- DevOps: dev + ops collaboration, automated pipelines. CI/CD.
- PRINCE2: temporary project structures aligned to strategy. PPM: portfolio, programme, project management.
This wraps the series; the full set starts at key concepts.
